INTRODUCING THE GREEN MACHINE
Posted on 12th October 2017
We’ve added another piece of stunning artwork to the marketing suite gallery, ‘Green Machine’ by Emma Charlton. Speaking exclusively to Emma we gained an insight into how she discovered her talent, her inspiration and what she has recently been up to in Ibiza!
When did you first discover your talent?
I started painting when I was 13, I would always use watercolours and paint the flowers that sat on the kitchen table. When I left school I went into graphics and became a designer working for interiors whilst painting on the side, but only ever for myself or for family presents at Christmas and birthdays. In 2012 I left my job and moved to Ibiza, here I lived in an old finca house in the North of the Island and I started painting. This was the first time I had sold a painting at the markets.
Where does your inspiration come from?
The idea of alternate, flora rich worlds with beautiful green trees and colours from pastels to bright influence my work. The sea, the clouds and colours at sunrise and sunset also have a great influence on the colour palettes I chose for my abstract paintings. Green machine is a piece based on a cheese plant and red and purple tulips. This was a commission for a client in Berlin that I did earlier this year.
Where are you based?
I moved back to London in 2014 and took a studio at Stour Space in Hackney Wick so I could develop my practice further. I am still based there, I love this part of London it has been really wonderful working in the space and I have met so many people that inspire me.
Do you have any upcoming exhibitions?
I have taken part in various exhibitions in the UK and abroad, my most recent exhibition was an installation for an event in Beirut and I have just finished working on 2 commissions for clients in Ibiza. I have nothing planned yet as I have been away working on commissions but I hope to have something this side of Christmas.
